Charge d'affaires ad interim of the Chinese Embassy in Lesotho Mr. Song Changqing Attended the Donation Ceremony of Medicine and Medical Instruments from 13th Chinese Medical Team to Motebang Hospital

On 18th December, Charge d'affaires ad interim of the Embassy of the People's Republic of China in the Kingdom of Lesotho, Mr. Song Changqing attended the Donation Ceremony of Medicine and Medical Instruments from 13th Chinese Medical Team to Motebang Hospital in Leribe. Roughly 60 guests attended the ceremony, including Hon. Nkaku Kabi, Minister of Health, Mr.Yao Xiwu, Vice Inspector of the Health Commission of Hubei Province, DA of Leribe District, Deputy Principal Secretary and Director General of Ministry of Health, representatives of Motebang Hospital, delegation of the Health Commission of Hubei Province, members of 13th Chinese Medical Team and the journalists. Dr. Li Jin, leader of 13th Chinese Medical Team signed the handover certificate for the medicine and medical instruments, the value of which is about 450 thousand Maloti, with the representative of Motebang Hospital.

Mr. Song indicated in his remarks that the Chinese government attaches great importance to the public health cooperation between China and Lesotho and supports the public health development of Lesotho by sending Chinese Medical Team, grant medicine and medical instruments, and sending Lesotho doctors and nurses to China for study and short-term training. In addition, the China aid Maseru District Hospital and Eye Clinic is anticipated that the construction will start in the first half of next year. Once built, it will significantly promote the medical services in Lesotho and bring tangible benefits to Basotho. Mr. Song emphasized that the two governments have started working to implement the outcomes of the FOCAC Beijing Summit and the official bilateral visit to China of the Right Honorable Prime Minister Thabane, which will significantly promote the social and economic development of Lesotho.

Mr Yao Xiwu indicated in his remarks that the Chinese Medical Team made outstanding contributions for improving the health of Basotho under the guidance of the Chinese Embassy and the Ministry of Health of the Kingdom of Lesotho.  The Health Commission of Hubei Province will continuously increases medical assistance to support the public health development of Lesotho.

Hon. Nkaku Kabi, Minister of Health, indicated in his remarks that the donation of medicine and medical instruments was an another friendly gesture by the Chinese Government and people, and also a Christmas and New Year gift to the Lesotho Government and Basotho. He expressed sincere gratitude to China for this generous gesture, pointed out the donation will boost Motebang Hospital's capacity to better cater for the medical needs of the entire northern region, and called on the two governments to strengthen public health cooperation to benefit more Basotho.
