| Lao Prime Minister Meets with Li Zhaoxing |

On July 27, 2005, Lao Prime Minister Bounnhang Vorachith met at his residence with Chinese Foreign Minister Li Zhaoxing, who came to attend the Foreign Ministers' Meeting of ASEAN, China, Japan and the Republic of Korea (ROK) and pay an official visit to the Laos. Prior to this meeting, Li also held talks with Somsavat, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of the Laos. During the meeting and talks, Li said that China and the Laos are close and friendly neighbors. In recent years, guided by the principle of "developing long-term stability, good-neighborliness and friendliness, mutual trust and comprehensive cooperation between China and the Laos" identified by both leaders, the good-neighborly and friendly cooperative relations between the two countries have maintained stable development. Not long ago, both leaders reached new consensus on furthering the bilateral cooperation, which injected new vitalities to the comprehensive and further development of bilateral relations. China hopes to work with the Lao side to implement the consensus reached by both leaders, deepen the exchange and cooperation in the fields of economy, trade, tourism, education, security and human resources development, maintain close coordination and cooperation in international affairs as well as drive the bilateral relationship to a higher level. Talking of China-ASEAN relations, Li added that China-ASEAN strategic partnership has made constant progress, contributing greatly to regional peace, stability and development. The Chinese side sang high praise for the Laos' endeavor to consolidate and develop China-ASEAN relations. China will continue to work with all ASEAN countries to further promote the bilateral strategic partnership. Bounnhang and other Lao leaders expressed that in recent years, relations between the Laos and China have been constantly consolidated and expanded. Frequent high-level contacts between both countries have greatly strengthened the mutual political trust and mutually beneficial cooperation. The Lao side thanks the Chinese side for its help to the Laos. The Laos will make positive and continuous efforts to boost the Laos-China relationship and strengthen the cooperation with China in various fields and the coordination with China in international affairs according to the guideline identified by both leaders. The Lao side will unswervingly support China's position on the Taiwan question and pursue the one-China policy. The Lao side appreciates the efforts China has made to peacefully resolve the nuclear issue on the KoreanPeninsulaLaos will strive to promote the growth of ASEAN-China relations. Both sides also exchanged views on major international and regional affairs. |
